TRANSFER OF CERTAIN MDCH WORKERS TO MDOC
House Bill 6085
Sponsor: Rep. Gary A. Newell
Committee: Government Operations
Complete to 9-14-04
A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6085 AS INTRODUCED 7-22-04
The bill would amend the Correctional Officers’ Training Act of 1982 to specify that an individual employed by the Department of Community Health as a forensic security aide at the Huron Valley Center or the Center for Forensic Psychiatry who is transferred to a position as a state correctional officer employed by the Department of Corrections shall be certified by the DOC if he or she accepts the transfer, obtains a high school diploma or passes the general education development (GED) test, successfully completes 320 hours of new employee training, and fulfills other requirements (except the physical fitness requirements) for state correctional officers developed by the department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
According to the Department of Corrections, up to 250 forensic security aides could become corrections officers. Because the pay ranges for the two positions are identical, the bill would have no direct fiscal impact for the state..
