REPEAL LOCAL SUNDAY HUNTING BAN - H.B. name="1">4011: COMMITTEE SUMMARYHouse Bill 4011 (as passed by the House)
Sponsor: Representative Gene DeRossett
House Committee: Conservation and Outdoor Recreation
Senate Committee: Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs
CONTENT
The bill would repeal Local Act 9 of 1927, which prohibits hunting on the land of another person on Sunday in Washtenaw County.
A violation of the local act is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of at least $10 but not more than $25, up to 30 days’ imprisonment, or both.
The local act had to be approved by the voters of Washtenaw County.
The bill is tie-barred to House Bill 4599, which would repeal a local act that prohibits Sunday hunting on the land of another in Tuscola County, and local acts that prohibit Sunday hunting with dogs or firearms in Hillsdale, Lenawee, and St. Clair Counties.

FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would have no fiscal impact on State government. It would have a minimal impact on local units of government since the prohibition on Sunday hunting is not well enforced. There would be a slight reduction in fine revenue, which is distributed to local libraries, and in the costs of imprisonment and probation, depending on the sentences violators currently receive.
