CONTENT
The bill would amend the Public Health Code to revise the manner in which a dental patient's care and treatment information may be disclosed. Under the Code, information relative to the care and treatment of a dental patient acquired as a result of providing professional dental services is confidential and privileged. A dentist or a dentist's employee may not disclose that information except with the written consent of the patient or his or her attorney. Under the bill, the information could not be disclosed except as otherwise permitted or required under the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and regulations promulgated under that Act, or parts 160 (General Administrative Requirements) and 164 (Security and Privacy) of Title 45 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
