                                                                                 A bill to amend 1846 RS 14, entitled                                              

                                                                                

    "Of county officers,"                                                       

                                                                                

    by amending section 91 (MCL 53.91).                                         

                                                                                

                THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:                      

                                                                                

1       Sec. 91.  (1) The register of deeds shall appoint  a deputy,                

                                                                                

2   to hold his office during the pleasure of the register; such                

                                                                                

3   appointment and the revocation thereof to be in writing, and                

                                                                                

4   filed in the office of the county clerk; and before such deputy             

                                                                                

5   shall enter upon the duties of his office, he shall take the oath           

                                                                                

6   prescribed by the twelfth article of the constitution, and for              

                                                                                

7   the faithful performance of his duties by such deputy the                   

                                                                                

8   register and his sureties shall be responsible.  1 or more                  

                                                                                

9   deputies whom he or she considers necessary to perform the                  

                                                                                

10  functions and duties of the office of the register of deeds.                

                                                                                

11      (2) The register of deeds shall designate 1 of the deputies                 

                                                                                


                                                                                

1   appointed under subsection (1) as chief deputy.                             

                                                                                

2       (3) Before taking office, a person appointed under this                     

                                                                                

3   section shall take the constitutional oath of office as required            

                                                                                

4   by section 1 of 1951 PA 22, MCL 15.151.                                     

                                                                                

5       (4) The register of deeds may revoke his or her appointment                 

                                                                                

6   at any time.                                                                

                                                                                

7       (5) An appointment or revocation made under this section                    

                                                                                

8   shall be in writing and filed with the county clerk.
