A bill to amend 2001 PA 181, entitled
"An act to authorize the board of a school district to award high
school diplomas to World War II veterans under certain
circumstances; and to prescribe duties and responsibilities of
certain state officers and officials,"
by amending the title and section 1 (MCL 35.341).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 TITLE
2 An act to authorize the board of a school district to award
3 high school diplomas to World War II veterans, Vietnam War
4 veterans, and Korean conflict veterans under certain
5 circumstances; and to prescribe duties and responsibilities of
6 certain state officers and officials.
7 Sec. 1. (1) The board of a school district may award a high
8 school diploma to a qualified military veteran.
9 (2) As used in this act, "qualified military veteran" means
10 an individual who meets all of the following requirements:
1 (a) The military veteran is at least 65 years of age, if
2 living, or had attained at least 65 years of age, if deceased.
3 (b) Before graduation from a high school, the military
4 veteran enlisted in or was drafted into the armed forces of the
5 United States during World War II between December 16, 1940 and
6 December 31, 1946, during the Vietnam War between February 28,
7 1961 and May 7, 1975, or during the Korean conflict between June
8 27, 1950 and January 31, 1955.
9 (c) At the time he or she was drafted into or enlisted in the
10 armed forces of the United States, the military veteran was
11 enrolled in a high school in the school district to which the
12 application is made.
13 (d) The military veteran did not graduate from high school.
14 (e) The military veteran served under honorable conditions
15 during World War II, the Vietnam War, or the Korean conflict.
