A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1279g.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 1279g. (1) Not later than January 1, 2005, the
2 department shall develop and implement a program to award state
3 seals of excellence to high school graduates who demonstrate
4 outstanding achievement in advanced mathematics and technology or
5 in civics education. The department shall do all of the
6 following for this program:
7 (a) Establish criteria for awarding the state seals of
8 excellence. The criteria shall ensure that the state seals of
9 excellence are awarded to those who demonstrate excellence in
10 each of the respective subject areas.
11 (b) Award state seals of excellence that are suitable to be
1 affixed to the graduate's high school transcript.
2 (2) If a high school graduate is awarded a state seal of
3 excellence under this section, the school or school district from
4 which the individual graduated shall place the state seal of
5 excellence on the individual's high school transcript.
