A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled
"The insurance code of 1956,"
(MCL 500.100 to 500.8302) by adding section 2212c.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 2212c. By January 1, 2004, the commissioner shall
2 develop a uniform, standard, electronic health care provider
3 credentialing application. This credentialing application shall
4 be used by January 1, 2005 by all health insurers, health care
5 corporations, and health maintenance organizations in the
6 credentialing process of health care providers in this state. In
7 developing the standard credentialing application, the
8 commissioner shall seek input from health care providers, health
9 insurers, health care corporations, health maintenance
10 organizations, and the council for affordable quality health
11 care. The commissioner shall consider all of the following in
1 developing the standard credentialing application:
2 (a) The credentialing needs of all health insurers, health
3 care corporations, and health maintenance organizations.
4 (b) Statutory credentialing requirements.
5 (c) The need to eliminate multiple recredentialing
6 applications for different health insurers, health care
7 corporations, and health maintenance organizations.
8 (d) Providing an efficient, electronic, cost-effective health
9 care provider database through which health care providers can
10 notify health insurers, health care corporations, and health
11 maintenance organizations of changes in address, practice-related
12 information, qualifications, or other pertinent data elements.
13 (e) Time frames within which health insurers, health care
14 corporations, and health maintenance organizations must respond
15 to credentialing applications.
