A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
by amending section 1246 (MCL 380.1246), as amended by 1995 PA
289.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 1246. (1) A school district, public school academy, or
2 intermediate school district shall not continue to employ a
3 person as a superintendent, principal, assistant principal, or
4 other person whose primary responsibility is administering
5 instructional programs or as a chief business official unless the
6 person has completed the continuing education requirements
7 prescribed by state
board rule under subsection (2).
8 (2) The state
board superintendent of public instruction
9 shall promulgate rules establishing continuing education
10 requirements as a condition for continued employment for persons
1 employed in positions described in subsection (1). The rules
2 shall prescribe a minimum
amount of continuing education to
3 that shall be completed
within a 5-year period 5 years after
4 initial employment and shall be completed each subsequent 5-year
5 period to meet the requirements of subsection (1) for continued
6 employment.
