                                                                                 A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled                                             

                                                                                

    "Michigan vehicle code,"                                                    

                                                                                

    (MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 904g.                              

                                                                                

                THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:                      

                                                                                

1       Sec. 904g.  (1) The department of state police shall prepare                

                                                                                

2   an annual report of violations of section 904.  The secretary of            

                                                                                

3   state, circuit court, district court, family division of circuit            

                                                                                

4   court, municipal courts, and local units of government in this              

                                                                                

5   state shall cooperate with the department of state police to                

                                                                                

6   provide information necessary for the preparation of the report.            

                                                                                

7   A copy of the report prepared under this subsection shall be                

                                                                                

8   submitted to the governor, the secretary of the senate, the clerk           

                                                                                

9   of the house of representatives, and the secretary of state on              

                                                                                

10  July 1 of each year.  The department of state police shall also             

                                                                                

11  deliver a copy, free of charge, to each newspaper in this state             

                                                                                


                                                                                

1   that is published on a daily basis.  The report shall contain for           

                                                                                

2   each county in the state all of the following information                   

                                                                                

3   applicable to those violations for the immediately preceding                

                                                                                

4   calendar year:                                                              

                                                                                

5       (a) The number of motor vehicle crashes resulting in bodily                 

                                                                                

6   injury, including a breakdown of the number of those injuries               

                                                                                

7   occurring per capita of population and per road mile in the                 

                                                                                

8   county.                                                                     

                                                                                

9       (b) The number of motor vehicle crashes resulting in death,                 

                                                                                

10  including the breakdown described in subdivision (a).                       

                                                                                

11      (c) The number of motor vehicle crashes, other than those                   

                                                                                

12  enumerated in subdivisions (a) and (b), including the breakdown             

                                                                                

13  described in subdivision (a).                                               

                                                                                

14      (d) The number of arrests made for violations of section 904                

                                                                                

15  or local ordinances substantially corresponding to section 904.             

                                                                                

16      (2) The secretary of state shall compile a report of                        

                                                                                

17  dispositions of charges for violations of section 904 by each               

                                                                                

18  judge for inclusion in the annual report.  The report compiled by           

                                                                                

19  the secretary of state shall include information regarding all of           

                                                                                

20  the following:                                                              

                                                                                

21      (a) The number of dismissals granted.                                       

                                                                                

22      (b) The number of convictions entered.                                      

                                                                                

23      (c) The number of acquittals entered.                                       

                                                                                

24      (d) The average length of imprisonment imposed.                             

                                                                                

25      (e) The average length of community service imposed in lieu                 

                                                                                

26  of imprisonment.                                                            

                                                                                

27      (f) The average fine imposed.                                               


                                                                                

1       (3) The secretary of state shall include in the compilation                 

                                                                                

2   under subsection (2) the number of licenses suspended, revoked,             

                                                                                

3   or restricted for those violations.
